Elena Dorfman is a contemporary American photographer and videographer. Born in Boston, 1965, Dorfman received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 1988. Working in both portraiture and landscape, identity and representation are themes found throughout her work. Highlighting how both nature and humanity are shaped by events such as war, isolation and climate change, Dorfman addresses the plight of marginalized communities and the natural environment.
Dorfman has exhibited her work at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Cincinnati Art Museum, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Museum of Modern Art, and was a finalist for the BMW Prize from Paris Photo. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
