Cynthia Scott (b. circa 1955, Rochester, NY; lives and works in New Orleans, LA) is a sculptor and installation artist. Her practice incorporates humor and whimsy with salvaged, recycled, and otherwise easily obtainable materials to address sociopolitical topics such as capitalism and the human relationship to the natural environment. Based in New Orleans since 1995, Scott was a founding member of artist cooperative Staple Goods Gallery and is a current member of The Front. Prior to earning an MFA in sculpture from Tulane University in 2008, she studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Scott is also an actress and appeared in the movie Aliens. Over the decades, her art has been exhibited nationally and recognized by numerous awards and grants.
