Lizbeth Marie "Betsy" Packard

Elizabeth Marie “Betsy” Packard (b. 1953, Chicago, IL, lives and works in Washington, D.C.) earned an MFA in painting from Tulane University in 1978. As a student, she studied under Pat Trevino, Hal Carney, and Gene Koss. Her aesthetic concern with ideas of history, re-use, and conservation began to shape when she studied abroad in Italy as a BFA student. Her work is known for its deployment of found or saved objects to make a statement about diverse forms of record-keeping or chronicling histories. Her work has been widely exhibited in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, and from the 1970s to the 90s it was also shown at institutions in Chicago and New England. In 2015, her work was highlighted at The American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center in "Outliers: Kurt Godwin and Betsy Packard".
